VIDEO; Senator Orji Uzor Kalu Reveals He Earns N14 Million Monthly as Lawmaker

Orji Uzor Kalu, Senator representing Abia North, has revealed that he earns a total of N14 million monthly, which covers all expenses related to his duties as a lawmaker. The former governor of Abia State made this disclosure during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television on Thursday, October 17.

"I earn N14 million for everything in a month. That includes overhead, worker's salaries, and everything," Senator Kalu explained, addressing the common perception that lawmakers live lavishly while the general public faces economic challenges.

Kalu also noted that this amount is insufficient to cover various expenses, such as travel to his constituency or maintaining his constituency office. Additionally, he clarified misconceptions about lawmakers receiving personal luxury vehicles. According to him, only committee members in the National Assembly are provided with vehicles for official duties.

"I am in the Senate, and many things are said about Senators. I sit quietly and watch, and most of them are untrue. All I know is that committees receive vehicles; no individual lawmaker is given any vehicle," Kalu stated.

This revelation comes amidst growing public scrutiny over the compensation of Nigerian lawmakers.
