Solange Knowles, singer-songwriter and sister of Beyoncé, has disclosed that she was diagnosed with three chronic illnesses in 2018. The artist shared the news in an Instagram post while responding to a message by model and musician Shaun Ross, who was detailing his struggles with long COVID.
In her response, Solange expressed empathy for others dealing with health issues, writing, “Sending you so much love and strength Shaun, and to everyone in the comments dealing with the debilitating, confusing, and lonely symptoms of POTS!”
She went on to reveal her personal health journey, stating, “I was diagnosed with POTS, Sjögren’s, and MCAS in 2018 and completely understand the struggle of not wanting your health to define you.”
Solange also acknowledged the support she received from organizations and communities that helped her cope. “The good folks at [Dysautonomia International] were an incredible resource for me, and I’m grateful to the spoonie community for supporting me during times of complete uncertainty. Sending an abundance of love your way!” she added.
POTS, or Postural Tachycardia Syndrome, is a condition that leads to an unusually rapid heart rate when standing or sitting up. Sjögren’s Syndrome is an autoimmune disease affecting moisture-producing glands, often causing dry eyes and mouth. MCAS, or Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, triggers severe allergic reactions, affecting various body systems, including the skin, heart, and respiratory system.
Solange's openness about her health has resonated with many, highlighting the challenges of living with chronic illnesses while maintaining public and personal life balance.
