Donald Trump Sues CBS, Claims Kamala Harris Interview Was Edited to Influence Election

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against CBS, alleging that the network manipulated Vice President Kamala Harris's recent interview to unfairly favor her candidacy ahead of the 2024 election. According to Trump’s legal team, CBS aired two different versions of Harris's response to a question about the Israel-Hamas conflict, raising concerns of “deceptive editing.”

In the interview segment aired on Face the Nation, Harris was asked by correspondent Bill Whitaker why Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared unresponsive to U.S. influence. Harris's response in that version acknowledged “several movements in the region by Israel” as a result of U.S. advocacy. However, in the 60 Minutes broadcast on October 6, her answer was shortened to a more direct statement about the U.S. commitment to “end the war,” which Trump’s lawsuit claims edited out a less polished, “word salad” reply.

The lawsuit, filed in Texas’ Northern District, asserts that CBS’s edits were intended to present Harris as more coherent and decisive, which Trump argues could unfairly sway voters in favor of the Democratic Party. Trump is seeking $10 billion in damages and a jury trial, accusing CBS of crossing “the line from editorial judgment to deceitful manipulation.”

As the U.S. election nears, this legal action amplifies ongoing controversies about media coverage and its potential impact on voter perception.
