Austine Okocha Lauds Ademola Lookman’s Uniqueness Following African Player of the Year Win

Former Nigerian football legend Austine Okocha has praised Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman for his distinctive qualities, which earned him the prestigious African Player of the Year award.

Lookman, who currently plays for Atalanta in Serie A, clinched the coveted award last Monday in Marrakesh, Morocco. He outshone competitors like PSG’s Achraf Hakimi, Brighton’s Simon Adingra, and Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy to secure the honor.

The 27-year-old winger’s triumph makes him the sixth Nigerian to win the award, a significant milestone for Nigerian football.

In an interview on Soccer TV’s YouTube channel, Okocha, a former BBC African Player of the Year winner, commended Lookman’s hard work and dedication.

“The CAF Award is not just about how well you play on the pitch,” the former Super Eagles captain remarked. “Your attitude on the pitch, your reactions to fellow players, and your responses to coaches are all tested before we even talk about tactical performances.”

Okocha highlighted that Lookman’s recognition reflects his ability to excel in all these areas.

“For Ademola Lookman to be awarded African Best Player of the Year, it simply means he has been examined on all these criteria and passed,” he added.

Lookman’s achievement not only cements his status as one of Africa’s elite footballers but also continues Nigeria’s strong legacy in the sport. His success serves as inspiration for the next generation of players, showcasing the importance of skill, discipline, and teamwork in achieving greatness.

The award further boosts Lookman’s profile, solidifying his position as a vital asset for both Atalanta and the Nigerian national team.
