U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has announced his nomination of Warren A. Stephens, a billionaire investment banker and CEO of Stephens Inc., to serve as the next U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom. At 67, Stephens brings decades of leadership in the financial sector, having built his firm into a prominent financial services company headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Stephens, whose net worth exceeds $3 billion, is considered one of the wealthiest individuals in Arkansas and a major conservative donor. His nomination to the prestigious diplomatic post follows speculation that New York Jets owner Woody Johnson might be selected again after his tenure during Trump's first administration.
In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump praised Stephens for his business acumen and philanthropic efforts. "Over the last 38 years, Warren has built a remarkable financial services firm and selflessly contributed to his community as a philanthropist," Trump said. "He has always dreamed of serving the United States full time, and I am thrilled that he will now have that opportunity as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom."
Stephens will take up his role at Winfield House, the grand residence of the U.S. Ambassador to the UK, located in London’s Regent’s Park. Trump extended congratulations to Stephens and his family, including his wife Harriet, their three children, and six grandchildren.
This nomination highlights the ongoing trend of business leaders being tapped for diplomatic roles within the Trump administration, reflecting a preference for candidates with strong private sector backgrounds.
