Israel Reportedly Seeks Elon Musk’s Assistance in Hostage Negotiations with Hamas

Reports from U.S. media suggest that Israel has reached out to Elon Musk for help in facilitating hostage negotiations with Hamas. President Isaac Herzog reportedly called the billionaire earlier this week, asking for his intervention to influence U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to push for a deal.

The negotiations revolve around nearly 100 hostages, both dead and alive, believed to be held by Hamas in Gaza following their attack on October 7, 2023. Trump has taken a firm stance, demanding the hostages' release before his inauguration on January 20, 2025, warning of severe repercussions if his ultimatum is ignored.

Musk, the largest financial backer of Trump’s presidential campaign with an investment exceeding $260 million, has reportedly emerged as a critical liaison to Trump. Beyond financial support, Musk has been closely involved in Trump’s transition team, leading discussions on governmental cost-cutting and participating in high-level dialogues on international matters.

A source connected to the families of the hostages told CNN that Musk’s influence on Trump was a key topic during discussions with Herzog. The source noted, “Keeping an open channel with him [Musk] is important.” It remains unclear whether Musk agreed to approach Trump on the matter.

Trump issued a stern warning on social media earlier this week: “If the hostages are not released prior to January 20, 2025, there will be ALL HELL TO PAY in the Middle East.” He criticized the lack of action surrounding the hostage crisis, urging swift resolution before his assumption of office.

Musk has been actively engaging in international diplomacy, recently meeting Iran’s ambassador to the UN to discuss de-escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran. Additionally, he participated in a call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, despite expressing skepticism about U.S. military aid to Ukraine.

In a separate move, Musk’s SpaceX recently activated its Starlink satellite internet service at a hospital in Gaza, a project supported by Israel and the UAE. The service highlights the tightly controlled communications access in the region.

Musk has faced criticism for his past interactions and statements. His meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier this year came amid accusations of antisemitism after Musk endorsed a controversial post on his platform X, formerly Twitter.

As the hostage crisis continues, Musk’s potential involvement underscores his growing influence in geopolitical affairs, drawing attention to his role in high-stakes international negotiations.
