Randy Moss Reveals Cancer Battle and Recovery After Major Surgery

Randy Moss, a Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver, shared on Instagram Live Friday that he is currently recovering from major surgery after being diagnosed with cancer. Moss, who was seen using a cane during the broadcast, revealed that he had been diagnosed with a cancerous mass in his bile duct, located between his pancreas and liver.

The 47-year-old Moss underwent surgery on Thanksgiving to place a stent in his liver, followed by a six-hour Whipple procedure just over a week ago to remove the tumor. This surgery, which involves the removal of parts of the pancreas, small intestine, gallbladder, and bile duct, was performed to combat the cancer. After spending six days in the hospital, Moss was discharged on Friday.

Moss expressed his gratitude for the support he has received from family, friends, and fans, referring to them as his "prayer warriors." He shared that he will continue treatment, including radiation and chemotherapy, and thanked everyone for their well wishes.

In the video, Moss also reflected on how the diagnosis took him by surprise, saying that he never expected to be in such a position despite thinking he was healthy. Moss, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2018, stepped away from his role as an analyst on ESPN's "Sunday NFL Countdown" on December 6 to focus on his recovery. He hopes to return to his television role once he is healthy enough.

Moss, known for his legendary NFL career, is second in league history with 156 touchdown catches, and he set an NFL record with 23 touchdown receptions in 2007 while playing for the New England Patriots. In addition to his health update, Moss encouraged fans to support cancer research through donations on his personal website, which he said would benefit the ongoing fight against the disease.
