South African singer Tyla has achieved a historic milestone by breaking Beyoncé’s record for the most-streamed album by a Black female artist released in 2024. Tyla’s self-titled debut album amassed an impressive 1.565 billion streams on Spotify, surpassing Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, which garnered 1.564 billion streams.
This accomplishment makes Tyla’s debut the most-streamed album ever by a female African artist. The album’s lead single, “Water,” has played a significant role in its success, amassing nearly a billion streams on Spotify. The track also earned Tyla the inaugural Best African Music Performance award at the 66th Grammys.
Despite its overwhelming success, Tyla’s album and its deluxe edition were notably absent from the recently announced nominations for the 67th Grammys.
Nevertheless, Tyla has had an extraordinary year, becoming the most awarded African artist of 2024. She has won 20 accolades, including:
- 1 Grammy Award
- 3 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs)
- 2 BET Awards
- 1 MTV Video Music Award (VMA)

- 1 DStv Content Creator Award
- 1 3Music Award
