TV Judge Greg Mathis Sued Over Alleged Gun Threat Against LA Worker

 

Television personality Greg Mathis is facing a lawsuit filed by a Los Angeles city worker who claims the judge threatened him with a gun during a confrontation in July 2023. The incident reportedly occurred outside Mathis' Los Angeles home and has sparked controversy surrounding the TV judge, known for his courtroom show.

According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Ricardo Acosta, an employee of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), alleges that Mathis became irate when a dump truck blocked his driveway. Acosta claims Mathis exited his car, yelled profanities, and demanded the vehicle be moved immediately.

Acosta says he advised Mathis to step back, explaining that the truck was parked on a slope and could roll backward, posing a safety hazard. The lawsuit alleges that Mathis responded aggressively, daring Acosta to “run him over and see what happens,” before retreating into his home. Acosta claims Mathis returned moments later with a firearm and threatened to “bust a cap,” repeating the phrase multiple times before leaving the scene in his car.

The lawsuit, filed in a Los Angeles court, accuses Mathis of assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Acosta is seeking damages for the alleged confrontation.

Anahita Sedaghatfar, Mathis’ attorney, has strongly denied the accusations, labeling the lawsuit an “extortion attempt.” In a public statement, she argued that Acosta’s account is inconsistent with the facts of the case and claimed Mathis acted out of concern for his safety.

Sedaghatfar also highlighted that the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) did not pursue an investigation into the initial complaint filed by Acosta. She suggested this weakens the credibility of the allegations. Furthermore, she announced Mathis’ intent to file countersuits for defamation and unlawful conduct if the case moves forward.

The lawsuit stems from an altercation in July 2023, during which law enforcement sources confirmed that a complaint had been filed against Mathis. Acosta accused him of threatening LADWP workers with a gun during the dispute over the blocked driveway.

Mathis, who has built a reputation as a no-nonsense TV judge over the years, has not commented publicly on the legal proceedings.

The case remains unresolved, with both sides presenting starkly different accounts of the events. As the legal battle unfolds, Mathis’ reputation and longstanding career in television may face heightened scrutiny.
