Uchechi Kanu, wife of pro-Biafra activist Nnamdi Kanu, has dismissed claims made by a faction called the Indigenous People of Biafra Political Wing (IPOB-PW), labeling it a "sham" and declaring that it does not represent her husband or the original IPOB movement.
The IPOB-PW had recently announced its intention to open negotiations with the Nigerian government over the future of the South East region, allegedly with Nnamdi Kanu’s approval. According to the group’s spokesperson, Emereonye Nwachukwu, this initiative was sparked by comments made by Bianca Ojukwu, Nigeria's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, expressing hope for Kanu’s release.
Reacting to these developments, Uchechi Kanu took to X (formerly Twitter) to refute the claims, calling IPOB-PW a fraudulent and "faceless group." She stated unequivocally that the organization does not have her husband's backing.
“Who are these faceless fools? What is, and who are the people behind this sham called IPOB-PW?" she posted. "Be aware that IPOB-PW is a hoax and does not speak for Nnamdi Kanu or IPOB."
She reiterated that IPOB operates as a single, unified global entity, emphasizing:
“IPOB does not have any other branch. It is only one IPOB all over the world – One Family. Nnamdi Kanu has said it in court, but the wicked do not reason.”
Uchechi’s statement reflects ongoing tensions within factions claiming to represent the Biafra movement. Her comments signal a rejection of any unauthorized negotiations purportedly linked to her husband while reaffirming IPOB’s commitment to its original structure.
The controversy underscores the complexities surrounding the Biafra agitation and highlights the challenges of unifying voices within the movement amid external pressures and internal divisions.
