The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has addressed the claims made by former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, regarding an alleged presidential ambition for 2031. El-Rufai had recently suggested that Ribadu was behind a smear campaign aimed at removing political competition from northern Nigeria ahead of the 2031 elections.
According to El-Rufai, Ribadu’s actions were motivated by his own political aspirations to succeed President Bola Tinubu. However, in a quick response, Ribadu refuted these allegations, calling them unfounded and urging the public to disregard them.
In a statement, Ribadu made it clear that he had no intention of engaging in a public dispute with El-Rufai. He emphasized that he was fully dedicated to his current role as NSA and had no interest in political conflicts. Ribadu also expressed that he had never made any comments about running for president in 2031, nor had he discussed the matter with anyone.
Ribadu further shared that despite facing criticism and attacks, he had always refrained from speaking ill of El-Rufai, out of respect for their past association and their families. He stressed that his focus remained on advancing the nation and supporting the success of President Tinubu’s administration.
In conclusion, Ribadu urged El-Rufai to allow him to concentrate on his responsibilities and stated that he had no intention of getting involved in El-Rufai’s affairs.
