The Coalition of Yoruba Youth Leaders has urgently called for the immediate release of the kidnapped President of the Afenifere Youth Council, Prince Eniola Joseph Ojajuni. This plea was made in an open letter signed by Akeem Adeleke, the National Secretary of the Coalition. The letter expresses deep concern over the abduction of Prince Ojajuni, a prominent executive member of the Coalition and leader of the Afenifere Youth Council, who was forcibly taken on Monday, February 17, 2025.
Since his abduction, Prince Ojajuni has been held hostage by kidnappers demanding an excessive ransom of ₦100 million. The situation has worsened as the kidnappers have issued a chilling ultimatum, threatening to take his life if their demands are not met. They have now escalated their demands by requesting two Keke NAPEP vehicles, with a deadline set for 3pm tomorrow, Tuesday. Failure to comply with this ultimatum, they warn, will result in the execution of Prince Ojajuni.
The Coalition described Prince Ojajuni’s abduction as not only a personal tragedy but also an affront to the entire Yoruba community and the nation. He is seen as a symbol of the youth's aspirations and their tireless efforts to advocate for the welfare of the Yoruba people.
In their plea, the Coalition appealed to President Bola Tinubu to mobilize all necessary resources and employ the full strength of Nigeria’s security forces to ensure the immediate and safe release of Prince Ojajuni. They also called on the Governors of the Southwestern States, including Governors Dapo Abiodun (Ogun State), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos State), Seyi Makinde (Oyo State), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti State), Ademola Adeleke (Osun State), and Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo State), to collaborate and take decisive action to rescue the youth leader.
The group further urged traditional rulers to lend their support in securing the release of Prince Ojajuni. They lamented the growing scourge of kidnapping, which has instilled fear and insecurity across the nation, eroding the foundation of safety that is essential for a prosperous society.
"The release of Prince Ojajuni will send a powerful message against such criminal activities and reaffirm our commitment to justice and the protection of our citizens," the letter emphasized.
The Coalition stressed that time is critical, as each passing moment in captivity intensifies the suffering of Prince Ojajuni’s family, friends, and the wider community. They called for immediate intervention to bring this crisis to a swift and just resolution.
