Precious Oruche, “Mama Pee,” Attacked by Suspected Thugs After Confrontation With Labour Party Chairman Julius Abure

Nigerian activist Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama Pee, says she was attacked by suspected thugs at Benin Airport on Friday after a heated confrontation with Labour Party’s factional National Chairman, Julius Abure.

The clash reportedly began earlier at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja when Mama Pee spotted Abure preparing to board a Max Air flight to Benin. She accused him of betraying Nigerians and destroying the Labour Party.

“Is this not Julius Abure? You’re the one frustrating Nigerians,” she told him, before adding, “You sold Labour Party, and then you are boarding an airplane? May God punish all of you.”

Abure responded briefly, “How can?” but witnesses say Mama Pee continued to lash out, accusing him of ruining the party and betraying the Obidient movement.

Things escalated further upon arrival at Benin Airport. Viral video footage shows Mama Pee being harassed at the airport exit by a group of young men alleged to be Abure’s loyalists. She claimed one thug struck her in the eye while another threatened to shoot her before security and immigration officers stepped in to prevent further violence.

“He brought thugs to harass me,” Mama Pee cried out in one of the clips. “Look at them, can you see them?”

The Abure-led Labour Party, however, gave a very different account. In a statement issued by National Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifoh, the party condemned the incident as an “unprovoked assault” on its chairman. According to Ifoh, Mama Pee was the aggressor, first confronting Abure in Abuja and then “continuing her assault” upon landing in Benin.

“It took the intervention of security agents to whisk Abure to safety while the attacker was handed over to the police for questioning,” the statement read. The party also accused Mama Pee of boasting about her political connections and vowed to “keep attacking Abure and his executive” until they step down.

Labour Party leaders have called on the Inspector General of Police to investigate what they describe as “cyberbullying and physical harassment” against their chairman, suggesting Mama Pee was working with “anti-democratic elements” to destabilize the party.

For her part, Mama Pee insists she is standing up for ordinary Nigerians and the Obidient movement, accusing Abure of betraying the cause of Peter Obi and selling out the party.

The incident has sparked sharp controversy online, with Nigerians divided over who was truly at fault. Some see Mama Pee’s confrontation as bold activism, while others argue that the chaos only deepens Labour Party’s internal crisis.

As investigations continue, the clash highlights the bitter fractures within the party — fractures that many fear could weaken its momentum ahead of future elections.
