Trump’s Approval Among Women Shows Slight Rebound Amid Policy Backlash and Media Scrutiny

After hitting a low point in August, President Donald Trump’s approval rating among women appears to be inching upward, according to new Quinnipiac University polling. Women’s approval has climbed from 29% in August to 32% in September, while disapproval dropped slightly from 65% to 61%—a modest recovery but still showing a significant gender gap.

The poll captures Trump’s complex relationship with women voters. Earlier this year, his executive orders and policies on transgender rights, women’s sports, and federal protections drew widespread criticism. His recent controversial comments on Tylenol use during pregnancy have already sparked scrutiny from medical experts and could influence future support.

Historically, Trump’s approval among women has been negatively impacted by his past remarks about female public figures and longstanding sexual misconduct allegations, which experts say help explain persistent gender-based opposition.

Despite this, the poll suggests a small rebound on domestic issues. Trump’s net approval on the economy and trade among women improved in September, even as disapproval remains high on inflation and broader economic concerns. His net approval on foreign policy also edged up slightly, though issues like the wars in Ukraine and Gaza continue to weigh heavily on his standing with women.

Experts caution that these month-to-month shifts may not reflect a lasting trend. Carrie Baker, professor of women, gender, and sexuality at Smith College, notes that Trump remains “underwater more with women than men” due to policy decisions and rhetoric, while YouGov data analyst David Montgomery emphasized that short-term polling swings could reflect news cycle fluctuations rather than permanent shifts in public opinion.

Overall, Trump’s slight rebound among women indicates stabilization, but deep divisions remain. How his ongoing statements and policy actions—especially on women’s health and family issues—will affect long-term support remains uncertain.
