DENVER, Colo. — Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) is under fire after photos surfaced showing her and her boyfriend, real estate broker Kyle Pearcy, attending a Halloween party dressed as a Mexican woman and an ICE agent — a move that has drawn accusations of racism and insensitivity.
According to a report by ABC News, the couple attended a private Halloween gathering last Friday. Photos obtained by the outlet show Pearcy wearing military fatigues with an ICE vest, while Boebert appeared in a sombrero, colorful dress, and large hoop earrings. One image also shows the congresswoman holding a sign reading, “Mexican Word of the Day: JUICY. Tell me if… Juicy ICE coming.”
An anonymous party attendee told ABC News the costume “was the most disgusting thing I have ever seen,” adding that even conservatives present were “in shock” and “avoided them.”
Despite the uproar, Boebert’s office offered no apology, issuing a brief statement dismissing the controversy:
“It’s a Halloween costume. Tell our Senators to vote for the CR and open the government. They are choosing to let millions of American families suffer.”
The response has only fueled criticism from advocacy groups and political observers who say Boebert’s dismissive tone underscores her history of inflammatory behavior. Civil rights organizations have condemned the incident as part of a broader pattern of racially charged rhetoric from the congresswoman, who has repeatedly faced backlash for her public comments about immigrants and Muslims.
The controversy arrives as Boebert prepares for a tough reelection campaign, with several Democratic challengers already seizing on the episode as evidence that she continues to embarrass her district on the national stage.
