Jake Paul Sidelined for Up to Nine Months After Double Jaw Fracture in Anthony Joshua Knockout

Jake Paul is facing a lengthy spell away from the ring after suffering a double jaw fracture during his heavyweight clash with former world champion Anthony Joshua at Miami’s Kaseya Center. The 28-year-old American was stopped in the sixth round after Joshua landed a powerful right hand that ended the contest.

Medical evaluations later confirmed that Paul sustained a parasymphysis fracture on the right side of his jaw, along with a separate fracture to the mandible body. Paul shared an X-ray image with his 29 million Instagram followers, publicly confirming the severity of the injury sustained during the bout.

While the fractured bones are expected to heal within roughly eight weeks, the overall recovery timeline is far more complicated. According to reports, the fracture line passed through the roots of several teeth, meaning Paul will require dental implant surgery approximately three months after the bone healing process. Following that, he is expected to undergo additional procedures to fit crowns, a process that could take six to seven months, delaying his full return to competition.

Only after completing the full course of dental treatment is Paul expected to regain close to 90 percent of his jaw strength. If he chooses to resume his boxing career, insiders believe he will move down to cruiserweight, having entered the Joshua fight nearly 30 pounds lighter than his opponent.

Despite the short duration of the bout — lasting just 989 seconds — the financial rewards were substantial. Paul and Joshua reportedly split a combined purse of £136 million, earning an estimated £69,000 per second inside the ring. Still, the defeat represents a significant setback for Paul’s ambitions at the elite level of the sport.

Before heading to the hospital, where he reportedly drove himself for surgery, Paul struck an upbeat tone when speaking to reporters.

“I’m feeling good. That was fun. I love this sport,” he said.
“I’m going to take a little break. I’ve been going hard for six years. We will heal the broken jaw, come back, and fight people my weight.”

Joshua, meanwhile, praised Paul’s determination after the fight, admitting the stoppage took longer than expected.

“Jake Paul has done really well tonight. I want to give him his props,” Joshua said.
“He got up time and time again. It was difficult in there for him, but he kept on trying to find a way through.”

Following surgery, Paul appeared unfazed by the defeat, posting images aboard a private jet surrounded by luxury items and cash. However, questions remain about what the future holds for the influencer-turned-boxer as he recovers from one of the most serious injuries of his career.

Joshua is now expected to pursue a long-anticipated showdown with Tyson Fury in 2026, though the bout remains contingent on Fury returning from retirement after stepping away earlier this year.
