The Abia House of Assembly has disclosed that Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing Ltd (IVM) has not delivered vehicles for its members despite receiving full payment. Speaker Emmanuel Emeruwa announced this on Thursday in Umuahia during a media interaction marking the first anniversary of the 8th Assembly.
Emeruwa stated that Innoson had repeatedly failed to fulfill its promise to deliver the vehicles. He warned that the Assembly might terminate the agreement with IVM if the company does not fulfill its obligations within the next 15 days.
"We are on the verge of terminating that contract and demanding our money back if Innoson doesn’t perform within the next 15 days. The house is serious about this and will not tolerate further delays," Emeruwa said.
He noted that the preference for IVM vehicles was part of Governor Alex Otti’s initiative to promote local content. However, the lack of vehicle delivery has left Assembly members without their vehicles one year after their inauguration.
Emeruwa also provided a progress report on the 8th Assembly, highlighting that five out of 15 bills had been passed into law, with 40 resolutions made, 46 petitions received, and 55 motions presented. He emphasized the Assembly's activity and predicted more accomplishments by this time next year.
The 8th Assembly, consisting of 24 members, was inaugurated on June 15, 2023.
