AIG Omata's Advice to Rivers State Police Amidst Political Crisis


 Assistant Inspector General of Police, Paul Omata of Zone 16 in Yenagoa, advised Rivers State Commissioner of Police Tunji Disu and his officers to maintain neutrality amidst the escalating political crisis in the state. During a visit to Port Harcourt to assess the security situation, Omata emphasized the importance of professionalism and impartiality among law enforcement personnel.

Addressing officers of the Rivers Police Command, AIG Omata's visit coincided with the decoration of officers promoted from Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP). He commended their efforts in maintaining peace during the crisis and underscored the need for vigilance and restraint.

"We must remain firm yet humble in our duties," Omata stated. "Our duty is to prevent violence, ensure the safety of residents going about their lawful activities, and maintain law and order without bias towards any political faction."

He urged officers to avoid affiliations with political parties and to seek guidance from their superiors to avoid compromising their roles. Omata praised the Police Command for its effective crime-fighting efforts, noting the importance of continuous improvement and professionalism.

Regarding the promotions, AIG Omata highlighted the Inspector General of Police's recognition of hard work and dedication among officers. He encouraged the newly promoted ACPs to continue their exemplary service and mentor junior colleagues.

In response, CP Tunji Disu affirmed the commitment of the Rivers State Police Command to neutrality and professionalism. He expressed gratitude for the officers' promotion and urged them to maintain their high standards while guiding and motivating their peers.

The ceremony, attended by HRM Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere of Omega Power Ministry (OPM), saw ACP Victor Perebogha and ACP Opayemi Olufunke Isi decorated for their achievements. ACP Perebogha, speaking on behalf of the promoted officers, thanked the IGP and police leadership for their support and pledged to uphold the values of the force.

In conclusion, AIG Omata emphasized the importance of continued diligence and adherence to professional standards in maintaining public trust and safety across Rivers State.
