Ali Baba's Insights: Welcoming Triplets, Economic Oversights, and the Real Issue of Corruption

Veteran stand-up comedian Atunyota Akpobome, popularly known as Ali Baba, shared his mixed feelings upon discovering that his wife was expecting triplets.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, he remarked, “I felt indifferent, but I was also happy.”

Ali Baba also took the opportunity to criticize the Nigerian Economic Summit Group for neglecting the entertainment and creative industries in their five-year economic forecast published two years ago.

He explained, “A 200-page booklet forecasting the Nigerian economy completely overlooked the creative industry. I believe the Nigerian Economic Summit Group was poorly advised at the time.

“However, they have begun forming sub-committees to address this oversight. This was a major omission, especially since the creative sector generates more revenue than some insurance companies and advertising agencies, which are included in the forecast. It's unfortunate, but I think the situation is being rectified.”

Furthermore, Ali Baba highlighted that corruption poses a far greater threat to Nigeria than the moral controversies often attributed to skit makers and content creators.

He asserted, “Moral standards are shaped by parental control, government policies, and the educational system, not by skit makers or content creators. These creators reflect societal issues rather than cause them. While they should not always promote negative behavior, the intense focus on morality distracts from the more pressing issue of corruption. Is a girl dancing naked on social media worse than a man embezzling N2 billion in office?”
