Breaking News: Niger Delta Communities Issue Final Warning to FG Over Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s Detention

The Association of Niger Delta Upland Communities has issued a stern warning to the Federal Government, demanding the immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). In a statement signed by President Isah Mohammed Obiri and Secretary Wisdom Oteyi, the association threatened to halt oil production in the Niger Delta if Kanu is not released.

“Our 14-day deadline is rapidly approaching,” the statement read. “We will cripple oil production if the Federal Government does not initiate a political solution to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s continued detention.”

The statement highlighted the critical importance of the Rumuekpe Manifold, which stores 700,000 barrels of crude oil per day, emphasizing that it will remain non-operational until Kanu is freed. The association also threatened the permanent closure of various oil wells connected to major pipelines, including Kolo Creek, Adabawa, Oguta/Assa Trunkline, and others, potentially affecting major oil facilities in the eastern zone and Bonny Terminal.

“This shutdown, effective since September 21, 2023, has already resulted in financial losses exceeding N14.5 trillion over the past eight months,” the statement continued. “The marginalization and conspiracy against the Igbo Biafran people must end immediately. We stand united as one family, and any injustice towards our leader is an injustice towards us all.”

The association also accused those responsible for Kanu’s extraordinary rendition from Kenya of exacerbating tensions and vowed to expose them in an upcoming press release. “Those who orchestrated this act against an innocent man, whose wisdom benefits us all, are the true adversaries of Nigeria,” the statement concluded. “We urge all conscientious citizens to stand with us and use our abundant natural resources to protect our leader until he is liberated.”
