Breaking News: Biden and Trump to Clash in Highly Anticipated Debate

Democratic Presidential candidate and current US President Joe Biden will face off against his Republican challenger, former President Donald Trump, on Thursday night, June 27, in a highly anticipated debate. This event offers voters a rare opportunity to see the two oldest candidates ever to run for the presidency side-by-side.

The 90-minute televised debate, marking the first time a sitting president and a former president will debate each other, will air at 9 p.m. ET (0100 GMT on Friday) on CNN. Given that a record 84 million viewers tuned in for Trump’s first debate with Hillary Clinton in 2016, this debate is expected to attract a massive audience.

Taking place over four months before Election Day on November 5, Trump, 78, will participate while facing multiple criminal charges, including those related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. He will need to convince undecided voters that he does not pose a threat to democracy, as Biden, 81, has claimed.

Biden, on the other hand, faces pressure to deliver a strong debate performance amid ongoing scrutiny of his age and mental acuity. Despite trailing Trump in polls across key battleground states, Biden's campaign hopes to highlight his efforts to assist Americans in contrast to what they describe as Trump’s "unhinged campaign of revenge and retribution," according to campaign spokesperson Michael Tyler.

Trump is expected to attack Biden’s handling of the southern border crisis, the economy, and his international leadership amid conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. "Thursday night is going to be a great opportunity for President Trump to highlight his strengths against Joe Biden's weaknesses, showcasing his record of success against Biden's record of failures," said Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt.

The final debate of this campaign season is scheduled for September.
