Custody Tragedy: Customs Officer Collapses at House Committee Hearing


 A tragic incident occurred at the Public Accounts Committee of the House of Representatives today, June 25, where Senior Customs officer Essien Etop Andrew collapsed and passed away while addressing committee members.

Andrew, who was present to participate in an investigation, suffered a sudden health crisis while responding to questions. Despite immediate efforts from first responders and medical staff at the National Assembly Clinic, he unfortunately did not survive.

Akin Rotimi, spokesperson for the House, conveyed the news in a statement, expressing profound sorrow over the loss of the esteemed Nigeria Customs Service official. The House extended heartfelt condolences to Andrew's family, friends, and colleagues, recognizing his significant contributions to the Customs Service and the nation.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD., also expressed condolences, emphasizing the House's readiness to support investigations into the incident and cooperate fully with relevant authorities to ensure all necessary procedures are followed.
