What began as a peaceful summer outing turned into a scene of unimaginable horror for 19-year-old Olga Moskalyova, whose final moments were spent pleading for help as she was attacked and killed by wild bears in Siberia.
Olga was taking a walk along a river near Petropavlovsk, Russia, with her stepfather Igor Tsyganenkov, when they encountered several bears. What followed was a nightmare that no mother should ever endure — one that Tatiana, Olga’s mother, would hear in real time over the phone.
According to reports, Olga first called her mother in fear as the bears approached. Moments later, her terrified voice was abruptly cut off as the attack began. Tatiana initially thought it was a cruel prank — until she heard the chilling sounds of growling and chewing over the phone.
“Then I heard the real horror and pain in Olga’s voice,” Tatiana recalled. “I heard the bear growling and chewing. I could have died then and there from shock.”
As the attack unfolded, Tatiana could do nothing but listen to her daughter’s final moments. Olga’s stepfather was attacked first. When she tried to run, a mother bear chased her down and dragged her by the leg. Despite her injuries, Olga managed to call her mother several times during the hour-long ordeal, her voice fading with each call.
Her last words were unbearably tender:
“Mum, it’s not hurting anymore. I don’t feel the pain. Forgive me for everything. I love you so much.”
By the time police and hunters arrived at the scene more than an hour later, the bears were still feeding on the victims’ remains. The animals were later killed to prevent further attacks.
Tatiana described her daughter as “a fun, warm, and friendly girl” with a bright future ahead. Olga had recently graduated from music school and earned her driver’s license just days before her death.
“She was full of life,” Tatiana said. “She had so many plans. She didn’t deserve such a cruel death.”
The tragedy has left many in shock — not just because of the brutality of the attack, but because of the haunting final phone calls that captured a young woman’s final moments of love, fear, and forgiveness.
It’s a stark reminder of nature’s raw, unpredictable power — and of the fragility of life, even in the most ordinary moments.
Would you like me to frame this story with a more reflective tone — for example, as a piece on human vulnerability and nature — or keep it as a straightforward tragic news report?
