Federal Authorities Raid Home Linked to Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao in Ongoing Investigation

Federal authorities raided a home linked to Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao as part of an investigation that also targeted at least two other properties. The FBI conducted the raid on Thursday morning, removing 80 boxes from a four-bedroom house associated with Thao, who is in her first term as mayor.

Details about the investigation are scarce. An FBI spokesperson confirmed "court-authorized law enforcement activity" but did not provide additional information.

The FBI also searched two homes owned by the politically influential Duong family, known for their recycling company Cal Waste Solutions. This company was previously investigated over campaign contributions to Thao and other city officials.

One of the properties is owned by Andy Duong, while the other is linked to David and Linda Duong.

Mayor Thao, 38, took office in January 2023 after serving on the Oakland city council. She campaigned on a progressive platform focused on addressing homelessness and crime in Oakland. Since taking office, Thao has faced criticism over persistent crime issues and is likely to face a recall vote in November.
