Lawsuit Challenges Louisiana's Mandate for Ten Commandments in Schools

Civil liberties organizations in the US, including the ACLU and Americans United for Separation of Church and State, have filed a lawsuit against Louisiana over a newly enacted law mandating the display of the Ten Commandments in state-funded schools. The law, signed by Governor Jeff Landry, has been criticized as unconstitutional and a violation of the separation of church and state.

The groups argue that the law promotes specific religious beliefs and infringes on individuals' freedom of religion. Similar bills have been proposed in other states but have not yet become law due to potential legal challenges. Despite past legal precedent striking down similar laws, some analysts suggest that Louisiana Republicans may feel emboldened by the conservative majority on the Supreme Court.
