Governor Godwin Obaseki Takes Firm Stance Against Criminality in Edo State

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has pledged the full commitment of the State Government to eradicate criminal gangs, including the now outlawed Okaigheles, from the state.

He made this declaration on Friday during a courtesy visit by Major-General Obinna Onubogu, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, at the Government House in Benin City.

Expressing concern over recent incidents, particularly in the Okomu area where Okaigheles and militant groups reportedly fired at soldiers, Governor Obaseki emphasized that such occurrences would not be tolerated.

He assured that the state government, in collaboration with all security agencies, is actively pursuing those involved in the incident and will hold them accountable.

Governor Obaseki underscored the gravity of the situation, stating, "We will not accept the proliferation of arms by cultists and Okaigheles in Edo State. With the support of the military, we will apprehend criminal elements who are causing disturbances and arming themselves to intimidate citizens."

Acknowledging the support of the military in maintaining security in the state, he reiterated the government's commitment to working closely with all security agencies to ensure the safety and protection of Edo citizens.

In response, Major-General Obinna Onubogu expressed gratitude for the Governor's support and emphasized the need for decisive action against any individuals attempting to disrupt peace in the state.

He affirmed the Army's dedication to collaborating with both the government and traditional authorities to maintain calm and security in Edo State, emphasizing the importance of unity and cooperation among all sectors towards achieving this goal.
