Over a Hundred Same-Sex Couples Celebrate Mass Wedding During Mexico City's Pride Month

Over a hundred same-sex couples celebrated their love in a mass wedding ceremony on Friday, June 28, as part of Mexico City's Pride Month festivities.

A total of 147 couples participated in the event, marking a significant milestone in their ongoing fight for equal rights. The celebration began with a performance by the Gay Choir of Mexico City, followed by a civil ceremony where couples exchanged vows and formalized their marriages.

"I told myself that today is just a normal day," said groom Ricardo Mercado. "But I do feel the nervousness and emotion. With all the community here united, you feel a nice energy."

These mass weddings have become an annual tradition during Pride Month in Mexico City, where same-sex unions were legalized in 2009. The city typically sponsors these ceremonies each year.

In 2023, hundreds of same-sex couples and transgender individuals in Mexico City celebrated their weddings and completed administrative processes to change their gender, highlighting the city's ongoing support for LGBTQ+ rights.
