Skales vs. Wizkid: The Heated Debate Over Hip-Hop's Survival

Nigerian rapper and singer Skales has responded to Afrobeats star Wizkid's controversial statement that "hip-hop is dead."

In an interview with Hip TV, Skales commented: "Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Wizkid has his perspective, so saying 'hip-hop is dead' is his viewpoint. For me, my philosophy is that everything has its time and season.

"Everything comes and goes, and there will always be a cycle. If you're popular today, you might not be tomorrow. Today, it might be rap that everyone loves, tomorrow it could be Afrobeats, and the day after, Amapiano, and so on.

"So, I wouldn't say hip-hop is dead. You can't declare something dead; it's just not its time right now. The excitement has shifted elsewhere. Soon enough, people might say Afrobeats is dead. It's all about timing. Nothing lasts forever. That's why we all face mortality eventually."
