Temporary Suspension of First Semester Exams at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic: Students' Union Takes Action

The Student Union Government (SUG) of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, located in Abeokuta, Ogun State, took a significant step on Wednesday by temporarily halting the commencement of the first semester exams for the 2023/2024 academic year. SUG leaders were witnessed blocking the entrance to the Computer-Based Test (CBT) center in a video circulated among students.

According to reports from an ND 2 Mass Communication student, the exams were disrupted by the student union, preventing students from entering the exam venue. "Today, we were supposed to start our exams with the EED exams. However, upon reaching the CBT center, the student union stopped us from entering. They obstructed the entrance and restrained departmental heads, claiming that exams could not proceed," the student recounted.

In an interview, SUG President Hezekiah Adelola shed light on the reasons behind the demonstration. Adelola expressed dissatisfaction with the management's handling of various issues, including the non-issuance of matriculation numbers to returning HND students and the delayed release of previous exam results.

Adelola elaborated, "The management's incompetence has created numerous challenges for our students. Some HND students were assigned new matriculation numbers instead of continuing with their old ones from ND. Despite our efforts, the management has failed to address this issue. Additionally, some departments are still awaiting the release of their results, leaving students uncertain about their academic status."

Furthermore, Adelola highlighted that several students who had paid their tuition fees were unable to print their receipts due to issues with the school's new portal. He emphasized that the migration to the new portal had caused discrepancies in fee payment records.

Regarding the reported altercation between union leaders and department heads, Adelola clarified that it was a discussion aimed at addressing concerns. "The Academic Board, led by the management, has acknowledged our grievances and pledged to communicate with us. Therefore, exams are on hold for now," he stated.

However, the school's Public Relations Officer, Yemi Ajibola, refuted claims of student interference with the exams. Ajibola explained that the exams were postponed due to incomplete student registrations, stating, "The exams couldn't proceed because many students hadn't completed their registration. There was no disruption by the students; it was a logistical issue evident to everyone."
