In a heartbreaking turn of events in Mississippi, a one-year-old child was found alive after enduring two days of challenging weather conditions. The discovery came shortly after his four-year-old sibling was tragically found deceased, and their mother, Aaliyah Jack, was apprehended by authorities.
Sheriff Gary "Stitch" Guillory of Calcasieu Parish detailed the harrowing ordeal during a press briefing in Lake Charles. The four-year-old's body was discovered near an Interstate 10 welcome center close to the Texas border, prompting a search for the missing one-year-old and his mother.
Despite fears for the worst, the one-year-old was miraculously found by a vigilant truck driver who spotted him crawling near a roadside. Sheriff Guillory described the child as having suffered numerous insect bites but was otherwise in stable condition.
The incident unfolded against the backdrop of Hurricane Beryl, which had swept through East Texas, complicating search efforts with heavy rains and gusty winds. Sheriff Guillory expressed gratitude to the truck driver whose alertness led to the discovery of the child.
Meanwhile, Aaliyah Jack was located in Meridian, Mississippi, hundreds of miles away from where her children were found. She was taken into custody by local authorities, and Louisiana officials issued a warrant for her arrest related to failing to report her child missing.
The investigation remains ongoing, with no additional charges pending against Jack as of the latest updates. Authorities continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the tragic events and the wellbeing of the surviving child.
