Beyoncé Grants Kamala Harris Permission to Use "Freedom" in Campaign

Beyoncé has reportedly given her blessing for Vice President Kamala Harris to use her song "Freedom" throughout Harris's presidential campaign. This decision came just hours before Harris's campaign headquarters event on Monday, where the song was played as she made her entrance.

According to CNN, Harris's team secured last-minute approval from Beyoncé, who had previously endorsed the Biden-Harris ticket in 2020. While Beyoncé has not officially endorsed Harris's candidacy following President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the race, her endorsement of the 2020 ticket was evident through social media posts and a visible show of support.

The track "Freedom," featured on Beyoncé’s acclaimed 2016 album Lemonade and featuring Kendrick Lamar, became an anthem for the George Floyd protests in 2020, seeing a significant surge in streaming. Beyoncé's mother, Tina Knowles, has also publicly supported Harris, posting on Instagram with a message backing Harris's presidential bid.

As Biden has endorsed Harris as his successor, the shift in support has energized Hollywood donors, with many expressing enthusiasm for Harris. Prominent figures such as Jamie Lee Curtis, Barbra Streisand, and George Clooney have publicly voiced their support for the vice president.

In contrast, Donald Trump has faced difficulties securing permission from artists to use their music at his events. High-profile musicians like Adele, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, and Rihanna have declined to allow their songs to be used in Trump's campaigns. Recently, Trump was supported by Kid Rock at the Republican National Convention.

With Beyoncé’s song now part of Harris’s campaign, the stage is set for a dynamic and high-profile election season.
