The involuntary manslaughter case against actor Alec Baldwin was dismissed on Friday, July 12, in a dramatic turn of events where the judge ruled that prosecutors failed to properly disclose evidence to the defense.

Baldwin's legal team had filed a motion arguing that crucial information regarding a box of ammunition linked to the case had not been adequately shared by state investigators with the defense. Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer, after hearing testimony on the issue, made the decision to dismiss the case with prejudice, meaning it cannot be retried.
"Dismissal with prejudice is warranted to uphold the integrity of the judicial system and ensure efficient justice administration," Judge Marlowe Sommer declared, bringing an abrupt end to the trial proceedings for the day.
As the ruling was announced, Baldwin was visibly moved, shedding tears and embracing his wife Hilaria in a moment of emotional release. The decision came amid a tumultuous hearing during Baldwin's involuntary manslaughter trial stemming from the fatal shooting on the set of the film "Rust" in October 2021.
During the trial, prosecutors had argued that Baldwin violated basic firearm safety rules by pointing a prop gun at Hutchins and pulling the trigger, leading to her death.
