French Directors Benoit Jacquot and Jacques Doillon Detained Amid Sexual Abuse Allegations

Renowned film directors Benoit Jacquot and Jacques Doillon have been taken into custody by French police for questioning regarding allegations of sexual abuse.

Jacquot, aged 77, and Doillon, aged 80, were observed arriving at a Paris police station accompanied by their legal representatives on Monday morning.

Actress and director Judith Godreche has formally accused Jacquot of rape and Doillon of sexual assault, alleging that Jacquot exerted a manipulative influence over her during a relationship that began when she was 14 years old, spanning from 1986 to 1992.

Godreche has also accused Doillon of misconduct during her time on the set of one of his films. Both directors have denied these allegations.

Another actor, Isild Le Besco, aged 41, has accused Jacquot of raping her between 1998 and 2007 within a toxic relationship that began when she was 16 and he was 52 years old. Additionally, actor Julia Roy, aged 34, has filed a complaint of sexual assault against Jacquot, describing a situation of coercion and intimidation lasting several years.

The directors' lawyers have emphasized their clients' presumption of innocence and questioned the necessity of their detention for questioning. Jacquot's lawyer, Julia Minkowski, highlighted her client's intention to fully cooperate. Meanwhile, Doillon's attorney, Marie Dose, argued that no legal grounds justified his detention, particularly so long after the alleged incidents.

According to sources close to the case, the interrogation may include a confrontation between the directors and their accusers.

On Instagram, Godreche expressed profound emotion upon hearing of the directors' summoning by police. She shared a photo of herself as a teenager alongside Jacquot, who was 25 years her senior when they first met on the set of his film Les Mendiants in 1986.

The allegations have stirred significant public attention, particularly in the context of power dynamics and the treatment of minors within the film industry.
