Governor Uzodinma Cautions Against Premature Nationwide Protest Against President Tinubu

In a statement on Wednesday, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and Chairman of the Southeast Governors Forum expressed concerns about the timing and potential consequences of a proposed nationwide protest against President Bola Tinubu. Uzodinma, who addressed the media following a meeting with President Tinubu and other key figures at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, emphasized that the current moment might not be the right time for such a demonstration.

Uzodinma argued that the protest could be prone to exploitation, drawing parallels to the EndSARS movement, which was marred by incidents of criminal activity. He highlighted the importance of having clear, constructive reasons for protests, noting that premature demonstrations could destabilize the already fragile political environment.

He remarked, “Democracy allows for protests, but they should be well-considered and strategically timed. There has been no detailed explanation from those organizing the protest regarding their grievances. Given the current global and domestic security challenges, we must be cautious not to jeopardize our nation’s stability.”

The governor urged Nigerians to be mindful of the potential for protests to be co-opted by malicious actors and advised against taking action that could exacerbate the country's vulnerabilities.
