Governors Convene in Abuja for Closed-Door Meeting Amid Nationwide Protest Concerns

Governors from Nigeria's 36 states have convened in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, for a critical meeting under the Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF). The gathering, held at the NGF secretariat, began with arrivals starting around 8 pm on Wednesday. Notable attendees include Governors Lawal Dauda of Zamfara, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, and Alex Otti of Abia.

Some governors, such as Peter Mbah of Enugu and Babagana Zulum of Borno, have delegated their deputies to attend on their behalf. The specific agenda of the meeting has not been disclosed to the public. However, it is speculated that the discussions might be linked to the upcoming nationwide protests scheduled from August 1 to 10.

This high-level meeting comes in the wake of previous discussions between the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, regarding the planned demonstrations.
