The Katsina State Command has apprehended a 13-year-old boy suspected of providing information to armed bandits. The arrest was announced by ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, spokesperson for the command, in a statement released on Friday, July 19, 2024.
The boy, who lives in Sheik Abdullahi quarters of Dandume town, was detained on July 3. This followed an operation by the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) in Dansoda village, Dandume Local Government Area (LGA), based on intelligence about his alleged involvement in aiding armed bandits.
According to the statement, the young suspect confessed to supplying information about potential targets to bandits and revealed that he had been involved in attacks on Unguwar Bawa village. These attacks included kidnapping and livestock rustling. He also mentioned one Abba, who remains at large, as his accomplice.
In addition to this arrest, the Katsina State Command has made several other significant arrests. Musaddik Abdullahi, a member of a notorious kidnapping syndicate, was apprehended. Abdullahi is part of a four-man gang known for kidnapping for ransom.
The police also arrested Abdulaziz Shehu, 18, and Umar Lawal, 21, for their involvement in theft and fraud. The duo is accused of swapping point-of-sale (POS) machines with counterfeit ones to fraudulently withdraw money from unsuspecting victims’ accounts.
Moreover, three suspected informants of armed bandits were arrested in Babbar Ruga village, Batagarawa LGA. These suspects were found to be providing sensitive information to Mustafa Dan-Gambo, a notorious bandit leader now on the run. The information supplied by the informants reportedly facilitated various criminal activities, including cattle rustling and kidnapping, in Jibia LGA and surrounding areas.
The investigations into these cases are ongoing, with further developments expected as the police continue their efforts to tackle banditry and related crimes in the region.
