Nollywood veteran Binta Ayo Mogaji, also known as Mama Insurance, recently shared her experience of having her first child at the age of 40 during an appearance on the ‘Talk To B’ podcast. She recounted her medical challenges, including undergoing surgery to remove one of her fallopian tubes due to an ectopic pregnancy.
Despite the surgery and having just one fallopian tube, Mogaji successfully gave birth to her child naturally. She revealed that she had resolved to adopt a child if she did not conceive by the age of 40. However, she welcomed her son just a few weeks after her 40th birthday.
Reflecting on her circumstances at the time, Mogaji noted that she and the father of her child were not interested in getting married.
"Unfortunately, the pregnancy was ectopic. I was taken to seven different hospitals, and the doctor doubted I would survive until the next day. The operation lasted about seven to nine hours. Some of my colleagues who visited me at the hospital were in tears," she said.
"The surgeons had to remove one fallopian tube, but I managed to have my child through natural birth. I had stopped looking for a husband and focused on having a baby. I decided that if I didn’t have a child by 40, I would adopt one."
"My partner, Jibola, came into my life shortly before I turned 40, and I gave birth to my baby six weeks after my 40th birthday. He didn’t want to get married either," she added.
