In a significant development, His Royal Highness, Eze Cyprian Amadi Worensu, has been granted bail of N50 million by the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt. The traditional ruler faces trial for allegedly threatening the lives of retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli and his family.
Justice Mohammed Turaki, who presided over the bail application, set the conditions for bail, requiring two sureties: one must be a Director in the Civil Service at level 16, and the other a first-class traditional ruler. Both sureties must be verified by the Head of Service. Additionally, the court registrar is tasked with verifying the residential addresses of both the sureties and the defendant.
Eze Worensu was originally arraigned before Justice Emmanuel Obele, who denied bail and ordered his remand in the Port Harcourt Correctional Facility. The case was later transferred to Justice Turaki, who has now granted bail and scheduled the next court date for October 16.
The charges against Eze Worensu stem from an incident on March 28, 2023, where he allegedly sent a threatening message to one Sunday Gift Chinem. The message was purportedly intended to intimidate retired Justice Enebeli, following a ruling in a chieftaincy suit involving Christopher Wonodi and others, decided on March 20, 2023.
The allegations against Eze Worensu are in violation of Section 24 (B.C) I of the Prohibition Prevention ETC. Act 2015.
