Social media critic Martin Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has strongly criticized Folashade Tinubu, the daughter of President Bola Tinubu, for her recent remarks urging Nigerians to give her father a three-year grace period before evaluating his performance.
In a statement, Folashade Tinubu advised the public to refrain from participating in the planned hunger protests set to take place from August 1 to 10, suggesting that patience was necessary before assessing her father’s administration.
VeryDarkMan took to social media on Monday to voice his discontent with Folashade’s comments. He accused her of ignoring the severe economic hardships currently faced by Nigerians under President Tinubu's administration.
"Does Folashade not understand that if your father’s first year in office hadn't been one of the worst in Nigeria’s history, people wouldn't be complaining so much?" VeryDarkMan remarked in his video response.
He urged Folashade to encourage her father to address the escalating economic issues, including the significant rise in fuel prices, which has exacerbated the hardship for many Nigerians. VeryDarkMan drew a parallel with Tinubu’s previous stance against fuel price hikes during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, suggesting that similar protests are justified now.
While condemning any potential violence associated with the upcoming protests, VeryDarkMan emphasized the importance of standing up for economic rights. He called for peaceful demonstrations and criticized the current government’s handling of fuel prices and availability.
"Warn your father that Nigerians are suffering. Tell him to address the economic issues. Protests should be peaceful, but they are necessary to highlight the severe cost of living and the unavailability of essential goods," he added.
The social media critic’s remarks highlight the growing public frustration over the current economic climate and the need for accountability from the government.
