South-East Governors Resolve to Secure Release of Nnamdi Kanu in Communiqué


 The South-East governors announced on Tuesday their intention to engage with the federal government to facilitate the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. This decision was part of the communiqué issued following a meeting of the Forum in Enugu.

Present at the meeting were governors Hope Uzodinma, Dr. Alex Otti, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru representing Imo, Abia, Anambra, and Ebonyi states respectively, along with the host, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, and other stakeholders.

The communiqué outlined several key points:

  • The Forum expressed condolences to the governments and people of Abia, Ebonyi, Imo states, as well as to the entire South-East region and the family of the late Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.
  • The Forum acknowledged a solidarity visit from Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, and His Royal Majesty Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, Obi of Onitsha.
  • Discussions included a review of the South-East Security and Economic Summit held in Owerri on September 28, 2023, with plans to implement security and economic integration measures.
  • It was resolved to visit the President to address critical issues affecting the South-East region.
  • The Forum committed to engaging with the Federal Government to secure the release of Mr. Nnamdi Kanu.

The governors affirmed their determination to pursue these initiatives aimed at addressing regional concerns and promoting development in the South-East.
