According to the report, Nigerians collectively made over 162 million visits to pornographic and gambling websites last month. Notably, two adult content sites ranked prominently, securing the second and sixth positions on the list of the most visited mobile sites.
In addition to adult content, sporting websites also saw significant traffic, with Nigerian users accessing these platforms 176.83 million times throughout the month.
The findings have sparked a variety of reactions from Nigerians online. Many have expressed concern over the prevalence of porn and betting sites on the list, contrasting it with browsing habits in other countries. An X (formerly Twitter) user known as @Lagos Cinematographer remarked, "I have checked USA, many African and European countries, only Nigeria has porn and betting sites on their list and even appeared more than once. Another user, Ayinla Oluwamayoma, criticized the high search rates for adult content on Google, stating, "Omooo, and to know more than 50% of the times Google was visited was to search for porn sites… This nation is gone."
Maverick voiced a more reflective perspective, saying, “This is a negative stride, especially to Nigerians. However, we seem to underrate how a good and working government affects our life personal choices. The extreme rate of unemployment, hunger, and starvation has made people resort to degenerative means of coping mechanisms.”
