Twelve Ajayi Crowther University Students Discharged in Alleged Murder Case of Fellow Student


 On Monday, July 1, twelve of the twenty-five students from Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, who had been charged with the alleged murder of fellow student and Warri kingdom prince Akro Jeffery, were discharged by the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan.

The students initially faced charges of conspiracy, murder, and negligence during their arraignment on June 5. Chief Magistrate Ogunkanmi adjourned the case to July 8 for further mention.

Prosecutor CSP Funke Fawole informed the court that the alleged offences occurred on May 24 around 9 p.m. at the university. Fawole stated that the defendants were accused of unlawfully causing the death of 22-year-old Jeffrey Akro by beating him with planks and electrical wire. Additionally, Oladoye, a security guard, was charged with failing to prevent the assault.

The charges were brought under Sections 516, 515, and 324 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
