Vivian Jenna Wilson, the transgender daughter of billionaire Elon Musk, has publicly criticized her father in an interview with NBC News, describing him as "cruel," "cold," and an "absentee parent."
Wilson, who recently transitioned from male to female and legally changed her surname to distance herself from Musk's name, spoke out following a series of controversial statements made by her father. Musk had claimed that Wilson was “dead” and “killed” after transitioning, and accused himself of being “tricked” into authorizing her transition treatment at age 16.
In her interview, Wilson refuted Musk’s claims, asserting that he was well-informed about her transition and not misled. She recounted that she had wanted to start treatment for severe gender dysphoria for months before her 16th birthday and required consent from both Musk and her mother, Justine Musk, whom he divorced in 2008. Wilson stated that her mother supported the decision, but Musk was less cooperative, demanding in-person discussions and scrutinizing the medical forms.
Wilson criticized Musk’s understanding of puberty blockers and hormone-replacement therapy, clarifying that these treatments, which she used, are not sterilization drugs and have been life-saving for her. She emphasized that these interventions allowed her to “thrive” and described them as crucial for her well-being.
Reflecting on her childhood, Wilson described Musk as rarely present and harshly critical, claiming that he was only involved in her life “maybe 10% of the time.” She recounted instances where Musk berated her for displaying feminine traits and pushed her to conform to more masculine behaviors.
Wilson also disputed Musk's characterization of her childhood interests and personal attributes, stating that his portrayal was a reduction to a “happy little stereotype” and did not reflect her true experiences. She expressed frustration over Musk’s public statements and his apparent need for validation from his supporters.
Since 2022, Wilson has legally changed her name and birth certificate to sever legal ties with Musk, stating in court documents that she no longer wishes to be “related to my biological father in any way, shape or form.” She has not communicated with Musk for approximately four years and remains determined not to be defined by him.
The interview marks Wilson’s first public comments on the matter, highlighting the strained relationship between her and her father amid ongoing public and legal disputes.
