Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has revealed that he is considering a bid for the presidency but will withdraw his candidacy if former President Goodluck Jonathan chooses to run.
Speaking on Thursday after a request from a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) encouraging him to run for the highest office in the land, Mohammed expressed his respect for Jonathan’s leadership experience and capabilities.
“I am still contemplating my chances as a potential presidential candidate. However, if Jonathan decides to run, I will defer my ambitions and support him wholeheartedly,” Mohammed stated. He emphasized that Jonathan’s experience and leadership qualities would make him a strong candidate for managing the country.
Mohammed praised Jonathan for his past achievements, noting, “Jonathan has a track record of inclusiveness and has addressed significant issues such as the Almajiri system and youth unemployment. His leadership style was exemplary, and we need such leaders with vision and energy.”
He also voiced his belief that Jonathan’s return to leadership could be beneficial, given his previous efforts to tackle inflation and address economic challenges. “I hope you will encourage him to consider running. His experience and past performance make him a formidable choice,” Mohammed added.
The governor also defended his criticisms of the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu, asserting that such critiques are part of his duty to help guide the nation in the right direction.
