Chippa United Extends Contract with Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali and Names Him Captain

Chippa United, a club in the South African Premier Soccer League, announced on Thursday, August 29, that goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has signed a new three-year contract extension with the team. The Nigerian-born goalkeeper, originally from Rivers State, will also take on a new role as the club's captain.

The Chilli Boys shared the news on their official website, expressing confidence in Nwabali's abilities both as a player and a leader. “We are pleased to announce that Stanley Nwabali has signed an improved three-year contract with Chippa United FC,” the club stated.

“We are incredibly proud of Stanley’s dedication and commitment to the club. His leadership on and off the field has been exemplary, and we believe he is the right person to guide our team through the challenges ahead. With this being said, Stanley will be our new team captain for the upcoming season.”

Nwabali joined Chippa United in 2022 from Katsina United, a team in the Nigeria Premier Football League, and quickly secured his position as the first-choice goalkeeper. His solid performances have earned him a reputation as a reliable presence between the posts.

The 28-year-old goalkeeper also represented Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, where he showcased his skills on an international stage, further boosting his profile.

With his contract extension and captaincy, Nwabali is set to play a crucial role in Chippa United’s plans for the upcoming seasons, and his leadership is expected to be vital in helping the club navigate future challenges.
