An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of a 12-year-old boy in a juvenile home following allegations that he stabbed two brothers. Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun issued the ruling on Wednesday, August 14, stating that the defendant, being a juvenile, would be tried at a Juvenile Court. The case has been adjourned to August 16 for mention.
During the court proceedings, Police Prosecutor Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi outlined the charges. He reported that the alleged incident occurred on August 10 at approximately 8 a.m. in the Omi Olori area of Ado Ekiti. The minor is accused of assaulting two siblings, Toheeb Adeitan and Tajudeen Adeitan, by beating and stabbing them on the hand and shoulder. Additionally, the boy is alleged to have maliciously damaged a Vivo handset valued at N19,000, belonging to one Basiri Adeitan.
The charges against the boy include violations of Sections 186, 421, and 181(d) of the Laws of Ekiti State, 2021, which pertain to assault and property damage. Despite the accusations, the defendant pleaded not guilty. His counsel, Gboyega Abiola, requested bail for the juvenile, assuring the court of his client's commitment to not abscond.
