Federal Government to Allocate 2025 Budget Based on Needs Assessment

The Federal Government has announced plans to allocate funds in the 2025 budget based on a detailed needs assessment, focusing on essential projects and agencies to ensure efficient resource utilization.

Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, revealed this strategy during a media briefing on August 22, following a one-day fact-finding tour of government agencies under the State House. Gbajabiamila stressed the importance of strategic prioritization due to the limited resources available, aiming to direct funds towards genuine needs.

During the briefing, Gbajabiamila expressed concerns regarding the current funding and performance of various government agencies. He questioned their effectiveness in achieving their mandates and their alignment with the administration's vision and the Renewed Hope Agenda. He suggested that agencies demonstrating underperformance might face restructuring, including potential mergers or dissolutions.

"In any country, resources are finite. Therefore, prioritization is crucial," Gbajabiamila said. "We need to assess where we stand, evaluate the performance of agencies, and determine the significance of their mandates in relation to the administration’s vision and the Renewed Hope Agenda."

He further noted that many agencies are not adequately funded and hinted at possible changes, stating, "We must consider whether to merge some agencies or eliminate others if they are not contributing effectively."

Gbajabiamila affirmed that the 2025 budget will be formulated based on a thorough needs assessment, ensuring that allocations are made with a clear understanding of the country’s priorities and requirements.
