Kano Governor Orders Immediate Closure of All State MDA Bank Accounts

Governor Kabiru Abba Yusuf of Kano State has directed the immediate closure of all bank accounts held by the state's ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). The directive was given during a meeting at the Government House, which included the Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service and heads of various MDAs.

Governor Yusuf stated that this measure aims to ensure that all government revenues are properly managed and effectively utilized to support the state's development objectives. He emphasized the need to comply with the Kano State MDA Revenue Harmonization Law of 2016, which mandates the centralization and harmonization of the state's financial management.

"I am directing the Accountant-General of the state to urgently issue a circular to all MDAs to comply with the provisions of the Kano State MDA Revenue Harmonization Law of 2016," Governor Yusuf announced. He further instructed that all money deposit banks and financial institutions close all existing MDA bank accounts related to internally generated revenue (IGR) and expenditure. The balances from these accounts are to be transferred to a newly created IGR account overseen by the Accountant-General.

In addition, banks have been ordered to submit certificates of compliance to the offices of the Accountant-General and the Chairman of the Kano Internal Revenue Service.

Governor Yusuf reassured the people of Kano State, especially taxpayers, that the funds would be used to enhance key sectors such as water and sanitation, health, education, and agriculture. He reiterated his administration's commitment to the ongoing development and welfare of the state.
