The General Overseer and Senior Prophet of the Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministry, Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin, has again threatened legal action against popular social critic Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
Recently, VDM accused Prophet Fufeyin of exploiting his congregation by selling spiritual materials, including the ‘Pool of Bethesda water’ and ‘Red Sea water’. VDM raised concerns about one of the bottled waters reportedly bearing a National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) number and subsequently petitioned the agency to justify their endorsement of the spiritual product.
Following the public backlash ignited by VDM's accusations, Prophet Fufeyin reportedly filed a N1 billion lawsuit against the critic. In an effort to substantiate his claims, VDM tested the spiritual products, which were purported to have “miraculous healing powers,” on a group of disabled individuals in Abuja. A viral video of the exercise showed that none of the individuals experienced any healing effects.
In a recent video posted on his official Facebook page, VDM claimed that Prophet Fufeyin had removed some of the contentious items from the church’s official website. However, the church management, in a statement released on Saturday night by one Sophia Lloyd, refuted these claims. The statement branded Otse’s allegations as “unfounded lies” and “cheap propaganda” aimed at defaming the General Overseer and tarnishing the church's reputation.
The church clarified that Otse is not an official representative of Mercy Television or the church and does not have the authority to speak or act on their behalf. Additionally, the church's legal team has been directed to take appropriate action regarding these false allegations.
“The church’s legal team has been instructed to take necessary actions against VDM,” the statement read, emphasizing that the video publication is a deliberate attempt to defame their General Overseer and tarnish the reputation of the church.
