Quentin Tarantino Weighs In on "Rust" Set Tragedy, Suggests Alec Baldwin Shares Responsibility

In a recent episode of Bill Maher's "Club Random" podcast, renowned filmmaker Quentin Tarantino addressed the tragic incident on the set of the film "Rust," where cinematographer Halyna Hutchins lost her life due to a shooting accident. The discussion delved into the responsibilities of those involved, with Tarantino suggesting that both the film's armourer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, and actor Alec Baldwin share responsibility for the incident.

Tarantino challenged the prevailing industry standard, upheld by SAG-AFTRA, which states that it is not the duty of actors to check the safety of weapons they handle during filming. He argued that actors should take personal responsibility for verifying the safety of firearms on set, a viewpoint that contrasts sharply with the union's stance.

The conversation comes in the wake of a July court decision dismissing a manslaughter charge against Baldwin. The dismissal was due to mishandled evidence by prosecutors, which had been improperly filed and subsequently concealed from Baldwin's defense team. In response, Baldwin has initiated legal action against Special Prosecutor Kari Morrissey and Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza.

The tragic incident on the "Rust" set continues to spark intense debate within the film industry, with growing calls for stricter safety protocols to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
